Education
My BA in Theology and Religious Studies, obtained in 2016 at the University of Cambridge (Queens’ College), equipped me with enhanced skills in academic rigour and discipline. My ability to critically review literature, and research, was honed in my undergraduate degree.
After the completion of my undergraduate degree, I embarked on the social work graduate programme, Frontline. Through Frontline, I obtained a PgDip in Social Work. This postgraduate qualification provided the essential knowledge for social work practice in the UK - my understanding of law, social care policy and practice standards was implemented in this diploma.
In 2019 I was awarded an MSc in Advanced Social Work Practice. The MSc provided enhanced teaching on the theory and practice of social work with children and vulnerable adults, and training in social research methodology. I conducted a qualitative, action research project within the MSc which allowed me to develop experience in recruiting participants from sensitive groups, following an ethical approval process, and gathering and analysing qualitative data.
Alongside the PGDip and MSc I completed the foundational year in Systemic Family Therapy which equipped me with strong therapeutic and trauma-informed interpersonal skills.
In September 2024 I was successfully registered onto the Social Policy PhD programme at the University of Bristol. My PhD project is a mixed-methods study, examining the nexus between statutory child removal and domestic homicide.
Professional experience
I have been registered with the professional body, Social Work England (formerly the Health and Care Professions Council), since 2018.
For the first five years of my career, I practised as a social worker within a Child Protection team, providing intervention and support to children subject to Child in Need and Child Protection plans, and children subject to Care Proceedings.
In 2022, I progressed into a consultant role within a Child Protection team, and have since been responsible for a team of up to five social workers.
In addition to these roles, I have also worked out-of-office hours for the Emergency Duty Service, which included responding to crises via calls and enquiries.
Furthermore, I have experience working with vulnerable adults, primarily as an IDVA for Women’s Aid, and Refuge.
For over seven years, in various roles, I have had a direct responsibility for safeguarding children and providing interventions which aim to protect them
from risk and harm.
